- Start the school time schedule this week. Set the alarm so you’re waking up at the time for a school day and then have a school day breakfast.
- Set aside 30 minutes (preferably in the morning and during the normal school day time) every day for some type of academics followed by 30 minutes of outside time. The movement immediately after academics is for the brain to process all this information.
- If this is the first year at a new school, walk to school (if possible) and check out the playground, the front entrance, etc. Talk about what they think they’re going to see, the most exciting thing they’ll do this school year, or where their classroom may be.
As much as children like to moan and groan about school, they love it even more. Routines are a big sense of comfort for children and school is the biggest routine of their lives.
Let’s have a great school year!
